Our Approach To Education

The Inquiry Design Model (IDM) Manual accompanies the curriculum maps for each module. “It is a distinctive approach to creating curriculum and instructional materials that honors teachers’ knowledge and expertise, avoids over prescription, and focuses on the main elements of the instructional design process as envisioned in the The National Council for Social Studies’ (NCSS) Inquiry Arc of the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework for Social Studies State Standards” (2013”C3 IDM).

This IDM organizes the Inquiry-Based Learning and teaching approach to emphasize students’ questions, ideas and observations. Inquiry based learning enhances comprehension rather than memorizing facts and taking notes. Students are encouraged to discuss ideas among their peers and explore topics to make their own connections and ask questions. This methodology allows students to build critical thinking and communication skills which enhances their ability to learn more effectively. The IDM manual is written to assist teachers in writing detailed lesson plans and meet the needs of all students through rigorous practice, relevant content, and engaging activities.

We encourage you to use this curriculum with fidelity. The teacher is the facilitator, not the lecturer. As you prepare to implement these lessons, remember you are not teaching a class, you are teaching children.
